La Taverne Médiévale

Quite sincerely the best food I have eaten in decades. Even though the place doesn't look like much and we strolled in because another restaurant was closed, this is by far, one of the best chefs of the region. The quality, quantity, flavours, advice on wines were second to none. And very much affordable compared to what you are being served! A must go when you are in Alsace. Due to a power outage at our originally booked restaurant, we were redirected to La Taverne Médiévale. When we made our reservation by phone for two people, we asked what time we could arrive. We were initially told 8:15 p.m., before being informed that all the other guests would be arriving earlier that evening and that we needed to be there by 8:00 p.m. at the latest. We then confirmed our arrival for around 7:45 p.m., to which we were told, "Yes, that would be fine." Imagine our surprise when we arrived at the agreed-upon time to find that our table was simply not available. After trying to seat us at an already occupied table, the most senior waitress (the same one who had taken our reservation) finally told us, "We'll seat you here, but you'll be with other people," pointing to a round table near the entrance in a tone that left little room for discussion. All this without the slightest apology, without any explanation, and especially as if it were perfectly normal to force customers to share their table with strangers when they had booked a table in advance. So we chose to leave the establishment. What is particularly incomprehensible is that we were put under so much pressure regarding our arrival time, under the pretext that everyone would be there earlier that evening, only to be unable to honor our reservation. If the establishment knew that the crowd would be exceptionally large, it would have been wiser to organize arrivals or limit reservations rather than degrading the customer experience in this way. Mistakes happen. However, the complete lack of apology, the unprofessionalism in handling the situation, and the dismissive manner in which we were received are much harder to accept. A very disappointing experience that reflects neither the hospitality nor the respect one has the right to expect from a restaurant. In the end, we dined elsewhere and had a wonderful evening and a very good meal. And above all, the quality of the customer service was impeccable.

Super tasty! Nice portions! It seemed busy but everything came quickly! And nice wines, of course.

Unfortunately, we wasted time getting there. It was advertised as open, but once we got in, we were kicked out (at 12:30 with two small children). Kudos to you for your professionalism and helpfulness; you shouldn't be a tourist!

Simply delicious

We were wonderfully welcomed by Lou-Ann and Émilie, who seated us comfortably under a pergola in the restaurant's courtyard. The cuisine beautifully showcased the flavors of the region. I highly recommend it, but make a reservation to ensure you get a table. Thank you for this lovely and delicious experience.

An excellent traditional restaurant that I hadn't visited in far too long. Superb shaded terrace, attentive service, and delicious, 100% homemade traditional cuisine. The salt-cured beef is a brilliant idea for a warm day, and the desserts (lemon and rhubarb) are equally delightful. Bravo!
